Marine pollution transport model available under MPERSS

Type of pollution model Oil and floating objects
Name of model MOTHY (GR)
References Daniel P., 1996: Operational forecasting of oil spill drift at Météo-France, Spill Science & Technology Bulletin. Vol. 3, No. 1/2, pp. 53-64.
Daniel P., G. Jan, F. Cabioc’h, Y. Landau and E . Loiseau, 2002: Drift modelling of cargo containers, Spill Science & Technology Bulletin, Vol. 7(5-6), pp. 279-288.
Free Subject to conditions established by Meteo-France
Input (pollutant data) Oil spill position, time and duration of the release, oil density.
Object dimensions.
Input (Environmental data) Wind and sea surface pressure provided by ECMWF model.
Trajectory algorithm: Wind For the time being from ECMWF model used as a forcing in the ocean model.
Trajectory algorithm: Current Wind driven current will in the near future be computed from shallow water model. Climatology of large-scale currents is included in the Mediterranean Sea.
Trajectory algorithm: Waves (generation method, effect on advection) The effect on advection is neglected
Fate algorithm: evaporation, emulsification... No
Model Validation Provided by Météo-France
Application area The model is applicable in the eastern Mediterranean Sea.
Real-time response capacity The model is available 24h/day, 365 days/year.
