Marine pollution transport model available under MPERSS
| Type of pollution model | Oil |
| Name of model | |
| References | Takada M. 1999. Meteorological and oceanographic information in case of marine pollution incident. WMO/TD-No.960,177-193. |
| Free | Yes |
| Input (pollutant data) | physical properties, release schedule, location and start/end times |
| Input (Environmental data) | Wind, wave, current |
| Trajectory algorithm: Wind | Drift by wind stress is set as 2.5% of wind speed at 10m above the sea surface. Direction of drift is set as 15° right from the wind direction at 10m above the sea surface. Wind data comes from numerical weather prediction models. |
| Trajectory algorithm: Current | Initial current data comes from ocean analysis system. Current is set constant during the calculation. It includes wind current and mean flow but does not include tidal current. |
| Trajectory algorithm: Waves (generation method, effect on advection) | Waves data comes from numerical wave prediction models. Effect of Stokes-drift by waves is calculated in the model. |
| Fate algorithm: evaporation, emulsification... | Yes |
| Model Validation | Comparison with trajectory data of drifting buoys. |
| Application area | mainly 4deg. x 4deg. area including the incident point |
| Real-time response capacity | It takes about 5 minutes for each calculation. |
